Sand martins arrival at Templeton Beach

We arrived to a deserted Templeton Beach around breakfast time. The brisk easterly wind was fierce … though it's great for bringing in the migratory birds. It was so hard to hold the camera still and not very warm at all. I was freezing cold but it was exciting to watch how the birds coped with gusts of over 60 mph.

Nevertheless we persevered and we were then treated to seeing the first of the sand martins arrive at Cooley Point cliffs from Africa for the summer!

A pair of sand martin birds arriving from Africa perched on outside a nesting hole in the cliff face.
